I loved photographing each of her children, but I was *itching* to do a family shoot.  Gorgeous kids, full of smiles and energy, loving parents and I could ppractially see all the gorgeous images.

And it turns out… Well, it was worth the wait.

This is an extended family who reunites each year on the North Shore.  Five munchkins who delight their grandparents–four active boys and one little girl who clearly holds her own.  This year they were so much more independent and grown up.  We hung out for some photos and then went to the beach, where they no longer had to be watched with eagle eyes–they raced to grab the boogey boards and hit the waves (then roll in the sand for maximum adult reaction).  The smallest ones are still content to play on the beach, but by next year there will be five little fish in the sea, I’d bet on it!

Inside that gorgeous Mom-to-be was a beautiful baby girl waiting to take hold of their hearts.  She came, and she conquered.  Grandma had been waiting there for weeks, and she made her mom wait a little extra time too, just to be sure she’d be appreciated.

And even the dogs have been moved by her presence.  As soon as she starts to whimper they come running to be sure she is OK and well cared for (of course, she is).  And the tiny doggie even moved into the nursery to be close during all the important moments.  She’s a mama’s girl too, just like little baby C.

Little, tiny babies are such a miracle.  And it is a privilege to be invited to photograph as a family gets to know this new person.  Thanks C3, for trusting me in this special time.

I am lucky enough to live in Coolidge Corner in Brookline.  It’s hard to overstate how much I love Brookline, and Coolidge Corner is the best area of the best town.  Really.  I’m a little biased, but I have done some research on this.

So, I was really excited last fall to see that Tiny Hanger, a children’s clothing store, was opening in Coolidge Corner.  I remember the little sign on the door–about a woman following her dream of opening a unique clothing store for kids and her excitement about the grand opening.  It’s always inspiring to read about someone jumping in, both feet, to realize a dream.  Well, when the store opened, it was better than anything that I could have anticipated.  I mean, let’s be real, it’s not that hard to find amazing and cute kids clothes, but this place really went the extra mile.  Each piece was carefully selected–and beyond that, there was clothing from local women making gorgeous pieces in their basements.  I swoon at these things.  Mostly because as the world gets more and more global, you have to try harder and harder to find truly unique things and Lucia had done just that.  Shoes made by a woman in Brookline (see photo below), local hats upcycled and made locally (also pictured), sweaters and capes from local designers.

This will help me answer the question I get most frequently from clients is “what should I wear?”  Tiny Hanger has lots of great answers.  Items with texture, ruffles, interesting seams, patterns, bright colors, fun buttons.  Here are some examples: a onsie that leaves the cute little toes revealed, tiny ruffles on pants, baby jeans, subtle apliques.  Really, your child won’t ever look bad, but in these clothes s/he will look especially gorgeous.

Over the next couple of weeks Lucia and I will give you some examples of Tiny Hanger’s outfits that will photograph well.  And even if you don’t have a shoot–I recommend dropping in (after all the holidays are coming!).  But don’t be surprised if you come out with a few more items than were on your list, the clothes are irresistible.

In honor of the 3 families who have inquired about infant shoots this week–here are some suggestions from Lucia and I about how to dress your baby for a shoot:

And, it’s a shame really, because this mom had a VISION.  I mean this in the best possible way.  She had outfits, locations, and ideas for the shoot–a sitting which included the two most disparately sized dogs I’ve ever met and her mom who was visiting from overseas.  Not to mention a mom and dad to be who are, not only clearly in love, but also unusually comfortable in front of the camera.  All of this made for a very fun maternity session.

Check of these gorgeous parents–and those dogs.  I really cannot get over these dogs!

I have been photographing these girls and their super-star parents for more than two years.  The girls know me.  Big sister threatens not to smile, but ultimately she starts to have fun, to smile and, mostly, to reflect glow of her parents’ love (occasionally being reminded of the ice cream she has been promised, of course–she is a three year old after all!).  And the little one.  She had me wrapped around her finger right away.  Full of the most hilarious expressions and infinitely kissable.  She reminded me so much of the big girl when she was the same age.

They are girls with a dad who beams when he looks at them.  Mom with a huge heart and a great zeal for all that the parts–delightful and frustrating–of raising girls.  The house is filled with princesses, babies, girly-clothes, and lots of hair accessories.  And two girls who are making off with hearts.

Together they were in the early phases of learning to be a family of four.  Sometimes dividing and conquering and other times enjoying the new dynamic of four.

Photos of these first few weeks are so wonderful to capture–I am sure that even by this time the baby looks completely different!  So wonderful to have this record.

So, I predicted a soft landing for their baby, but I don’t think that her feet have touched the ground yet!  Little E, as beautiful as they come, has not passed a moment without a kiss or caress.  The house is fairly bursting with love and caring for the new little person who has arrived–yet seems like she was always there.

Dad continues to serenade her.  My favorite shots are of all of them snuggling on the bed–and the ones where she is reacting to Daddy’s musical stylings.  Already, she seems to be an interactive audience of one!

Things have been a little hectic–regular newborn hectic compounded a bit by some other things, but these parents have been full of grace.  And E seems to be one who can just roll with the bumps in the road.  She came with some good shock absorbers.  As with all babies, the love is multiplied exponentially–and spread from her parents, to aunts and her grandmother–all of whom rushed to meet her and have their pictures taken.  Heck, if I was excited to see her I can only imagine how anxious they must have been.

E and I are going to spend this year getting to know eachother–so you guys will get to see her grow.
